Ultimate Guide for Beginners

Building a website is not reserved for a privileged few anymore. The emergence of new tools and software can empower everybody that wants a small business, ecommerce or personal website. You don’t have to understand programming to build your site at very affordable prices.

Introduction Building websites is not an occupation for a privileged few anymore. Now everybody can have a decent website at an affordable price. You don’t have to be a genius to build your site on your own. Yes, mastering web design takes time and creating web marvels does require efforts but if you want to have a simple, yet outstanding site, this is not rocket science and everybody can do it.

Why You Need a Website
There could be plenty of reasons why you need a website but some of the most common ones are:

  • All your competitors have sites. If you are a company, the fact that all your competitors have websites is a major reason to start building your own website. Nowadays, there is hardly a company, which doesn’t have a site and if you are among the few such companies, hurry up and get in line with the times.

  • You need a place to show your products/services. Websites are not just a fashion attribute you need because everybody else has one. Websites are really valuable because they are a place where you can show your products/services. Your website is a showroom, which is free and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • You need a way to communicate with your customers. In addition to being a free showroom for your products or services, websites are really useful for business because they allow to communicate with your customers.

The list of reasons is very long but even if we stop up to here, it is obvious that if you are a company, you simply can’t afford not to have a site. For individuals the reasons are slightly different but still, when so many individuals have their sites, where they publish photos and other works, don’t you think you could do the same?

What Are Your Options?
After you have made up your mind that you need a new website (or a serious revamp of your existing one), the next question is how to do it. Basically, you have three options for building your website:

  • Create the site on your own. If you have an idea of HTML and web design, creating your site on your own is quite a feasible option. It will take you a lot of time to create your site from scratch (or to make a major revamp of an existing one) but you will be the master of your destiny and you will be in control of everything.

  • Use a website builder. If you are not familiar with HTML and web design, or you don’t have the time to deal with all this, you can use a website builder. Website builders are really great for a fast and simple website and they are so easy to use! Probably the biggest problem you might have as far as website builders are concerned is to find the right one. With so many free and paid website builders on the market, the choice is really not easy.

  • Hire a designer. The last option you have is to hire a designer. It is worth if you spend the time to find a really good one because if you go for somebody mediocre or out right talentless and lazy, you might need medication to deal with the results. Generally hiring a pro is a good idea if you need it and can afford it but have in mind that if you don’t have the skills to maintain your website on your own, you will need the designer for every minor change you would like to make in the future.

Now, when you have decided that you do need a site (or a serious revamp of your existing site) and that you either will build it on your own, or will use a website builder, don’t hurry yet and jump in the deep water. Before you start coding/building your site, there are some very important preparation steps you shouldn’t skip.
